BlackBerry problems continue

The maker of BlackBerry, RIM, has now seen its shares down at 76% in the last year. Apart from South Africa, where in fact sales of BlackBerry are increasing, they are struggling around the rest of the world with their customers migrating to iPhones as well as Android devices. The competitiveness in South Africa relates to very attractive models in terms of data as well as the very useful BBM service. RIM has now acknowledged that it is considering “strategic business model alternatives” which basically means that it is now saying that they are hoping somebody will either buy the company or buy parts of the company and that its current business model is no longer working.

There is no denying that Blackberry is capable of making great hardware. Just look at the Blackberry P9981 Porsche design – it’s a fantastic looking phone to rival any design from Apple or Samsung. The problem with Blackberry is that the software has been left miles behind. I think Blackberry should continue making phones but embrace Android as their OS.

I would have to agree with simone , Blackberry is a very affordable phone for most people with bbm and unlimited data packages. However , I would also opt for another phone if Blackberry was not so affordable for myself

My interests are changing from BlackBerry to Android and i do think that in the near future i will no longer be on BlackBerry. I have never gotten so irritated by a phone before, which freezes, is slow, seldom has network etc. RIM are going to suffer serious loss if something isn't done and soon.

I have had blackberry for almost 3 years now, and I can say that I have had no problems with blackberry, so I don’t think that I will go to iPhone anytime soon.

It seems that everyone has a similar opinion in this regard. I upgraded to a better Blackberry, but now I have to upgrade the software every 3 months - it is VERY annoying.

RIM/Blackberry is quite annoying. Hopefully if someone does buy it they can improve it! Blackberry has 101 problems and most of the youth complain but like Nicolle said its convenient and affordable and with unlimited data how would we ever be able to switch to paying for data like we use to before blackberry!

I adore my Blackberry. It is convenient for quick and simple communication. I believe that for many youths/young adults the package that Blackberry offers is affordable, this is why many would stick to it.

I completely agree with Simone. If a similiar data package was available in android phones I would also change phones. Until such time time I will stick with Blackberry

I've noticed a lot of people I know has moved on from Blackberry and settled for an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy. The only reason I do like Blackberry is for the unlimited data package, otherwise I would also move on to Android.
