London Olympics 2012

The London Olympics draw to a close today, and certainly I think they have done wonders in terms of promoting London, not to mention convincing the British that they are better at sports than they sometimes think they are. They obviously don’t win medals at track and field items in the numbers that the Americans do, nor the Russians or Chinese, and this has been their most successful Olympics in history in terms of medals won not to mention the wonderful advert for the country and London in particular.

The closing ceremony tonight promises to be spectacular, with the best seats going at £1 500,00, but it is certainly something that I would prefer to watch on TV at that price! Earlier in the day, the men’s marathon will be run and that obviously gives people a chance to take part in the Olympics at little or no cost, because although they are running a route through Central London, that is free to view anywhere along the route and with them running multiple laps, you will get to see the athletes on a number of occasions. The atmosphere will be wonderful with hundreds of thousands of people crowding the streets.

Watching the games was indeed entertaining. Farah held the British flag high up. Well done to team SA.

Really enjoyed the Olympic experience. London did a great job and I thought the British crowds were very supporting to all athletes and recognized great performances. In my opinion, the Asian countries started to do very well across the board and I think they will be a force to be reckoned with in Rio in 2016. Now back to cricket and also looking forward to the Springboks on Saturday.

Honestly I believe that South Africans only started to really take notice of the Olympics once our swimmers started winning the Gold Medals.

I know that is the case with me, when you watch a sport you need to be invested in it and route for the Home TEAM :).

Very well done to the overall event.

I really wouldnt pay to watch it live, I dont mind at all watching on tv. If anyone is in London, perhaps its worth it but then again as you pointed out they will be running a route through London! I agree with Jess, I enjoyed watching this year. I didnt watch religiously but when I did (when SA ran or swam) I was a mighty sport and it was a good watch! Proud of #TeamSA

I really must say I was very impressed with the way everything was presented on the olympics and the function of it all. everything was on time and in specific order.

I did not have the chance to watch the opening ceremony and would love to watch the closing. As everything can be seen just fine on tv. paying that amount for tickets , I have to agree , would be insane

The Olympics was amazing. South-Africa did well, but wow 104 Medals for USA now that’s what all the other countries should use as a long term goal.

I have never enjoyed the Olympics like I have this year. S.A did very well and London did promote well too.
