Post Office strike

The Post Office strike is affecting all of us. I am not just talking about magazines that you may get in the post, or accounts that you are now happy to not receive, but important letters and business documents. We use the post to communicate with our clients, although obviously we also do so via e-mail, and it is extremely disruptive to a business when clients cannot send their documents by post remembering that many clients may not have e-mail.

The illegal strike started on 14 February 2013, it has been confirmed by a Court that the strike is indeed illegal and one wonders why the strikes simply go on and on. I think that the reality is that employers never crack down hard enough and fire the whole lot of the workers. People who are participating in illegal strikes are not protected and the lesson they should learn, in a country where we have approximately a 30% unemployment rate, is that they lose their jobs, and are simply out of work. That would send the message that needs to be heard by people who go on illegal strikes.

The unions really are causing problems. I do agree with Cosatu on the toll road issue. But I am also worried that the ANC leaders are pushing people to strike by being such bad examples. They hardly work and take enormous salaries while the workers get so little. But the strikes cause huge problems and also hurt the economy badly.

This 'striking' business never proves anything. As Thembi said 'They will end up losing their jobs and not having money to support their families at home.' I completely agree. It is a stupid thing to do, not only for themselves but their families as well

Lost of productivity, time and money... They dont care, cause nothing come off it... All companies are feeling it. No deadlines will be reached. That is realy a disappointment.

There are so many stories worldwide about South Africas image(or what left of it).think our country should be ashamed! I think striking is ridiculous as the strikers dont think how it will affect them and their families financialy when they loose their jobs.

This is so frustrating. I think management has to intensify efforts to put an end to this illegal strike.

This is a bad image for the country as they won't achieve anything in striking. They will end up losing their jobs and not having money to support their families at home.

So tired of all this striking, really get's annoying and you think to yourself just be happy with what you have, i mean there are people out there with a lot worse, and maybe they should all be fired as those people who don't have anything will be happy to replace them

All strikes are disruptive - although traffic is bliss. Thousands jump to the opportunity but there is also the handful that has no choice and do risk their lives should they go to work. Yet another situation where we have to shut up, sit back, and swallow.

I agree the Post Office strike is affecting all people I was following up on documents from a saps and was told documents were posted about a month ago and told to be patient and I thought it is impossible for a posted letter to take about a month to get to the recipient, now I know that it is because of the Post Office strike

Angelique  said:

This is so irritating. I have so many important documents lingering most likely at the post office which delays our work. It might be harsh but I agree that they just need to be fired - there are many people who want jobs and should be given the opportunity. If they want to strike they must do it the right way! They need to be made a lesson out of so the rest of the country can learn from it.

Benita  said:

I completely agree with firing them. It is total nonsense that so many people believe thing are just owed to them and they do not have to work for it or they are above the law. I say fire them there are many people looking for jobs who will be more than willing to fill these posts

These people push the boundaries because they know they can. They know from our countries history that threats of firing illegal strikers have never been carried through. They feel in charge and by the way they get away with things, they are

I agree because these legal strikes are affecting our country and it is sad because the rate of unemployment is so high.

14 February 2013 seems to be a cursed day.... This SAPO strike is extremely disruptive and I don't know why they are not just fired! It's disgraceful that people are sitting at home and think they are in the right and can just do as they want without any thought as to how this is affecting the rest of the country. Completely unpatriotic. I am sure the courier companies are not complaining though

I agree with Cherise, but I think there is a lot of fear after the incident at the Marikana Mines. People are not willing to risk that kind of violence again.

Cherise   said:

Our country always has a way of doing things backwards. They should be fired if they are illegally striking and still nothing is happening to them, everyones actions should have consequences, the soonert people learn this the sooner these unecessary strikes will stop.
