Where the "beep" is Steve?

I must say that these adverts that two of the banks run back and forth against each other, really don’t appeal to me. I may well be the exception, which is why it is always good to read the opinions of others on my blog, but I think they are a bit tasteless. I would like to associate banks with a higher class of standards than references to swear words by using the word “beep”, and I think that the adverts are rather rude, even if that is a more common way of speaking now. It may well be because I am an attorney, and we generally have a more conservative approach to those types of things, but I would associate those adverts more with nightclubs or something aimed at people in their late teens or early twenties, and while that may be the target audience for these adverts, certainly not all the people who do banking are in their late teens or early twenties. I think that the banks run the risk of alienating older and more serious clientele in the form of businesses, etc who may well think that these adverts are rather juvenile. What do you think?

I think they are trying to get more young people because they use swear words a lot not knowing that no one is impressed.

When I was studying Business Economics irritating adds were discussed in one of our lectures. According to the lector irritating adds are often made to make sure that the listener doesn't forget what they are advertising and it will stick with them. Be that argument as it may, when FNB adds start I put my radio off, only so much you can stomach until you feel you are going to vomit from it.

My feeling is that everything (even a TV series) with an ongoing thread become extremely annoying at the end of the day,

They are annoying! And they play every day, every morning and every evening. I must say it sticks in my head! We all know about it thats for sure. Any publicity is publicity at the end of the day - guess same with advertising!

I personally cannot stand these ads, they are annoying and distasteful and probably half the reason that I only listen to music on my Ipod and avoid radio stations all together.

'The Steve Ad's' were okay in the beginning but have become extremely annoying and repetitive. I have been with FNB since my "BOB" account and I am extremely happy with their service and constant upgrades. FNB's TV ad's are however something that always seems to impact me and make me think, most of their TV ad's motivate people to make a difference. Their TV ad's are close to home because they always show the reality of our country.

I agree with Alexis. i think they are trying to draw a younger generation because they know that those who have been with certain banks their whole lives will stick to them, mainly I think because it is just to much effort to move accounts. The swearing in the add seems to take things a bit far, though and I just block it out when it comes on the radio

I must admit that every time one of these ads comes on i zone out. They all obviously want as much business coming in and maybe they realize that they could never change the mind of one whom is much older as they are set in their ways and so go for the much younger crowd as they would be easier to pursued

Ads are annoying to begin with. The only "ad war" that I have appreciated was the Santam-Nando's one but that is because in stead of calling in the legal teams when Nando's spoofed the Santam ad, Santam challenged them to deliver food to a children's home as "punishment".
The rest of them are white noise in the background while I am in traffic.

Since FNB started with these adverts it has irritated me. One of the big reasons why I would not switch to FNB is because of these adverts. It is definitely not for me.

I agree and think that the use of substitutes for swear words is the same as using a swear word because it makes you think of the word in any event and therefore I am not impressed with a bank which I am supposed to trust with my livelihood and future using swear words to try and attract me. I think it is a joke hence me staying with the same bank I have been with since I was 3
