No good deed goes unpunished

This is a saying I enjoy, because it is quite often when you try to help people, perhaps to an extent that you would not normally, that almost invariably there is a complaint or a problem. In another context, a motorist charged with obstruction of justice for flashing his headlights to other motorists in America to indicate a police speed trap, has come up with a novel defence.

He says that the act of flashing headlights is a form of protected speech and that he is simply getting punished because the government does not like the message he is communicating. It will be an interesting case to follow, particularly in South Africa, for those who use Twitter and have seen the alerts from @PigSpotter for example, and this American State will have to decide whether it is allowed or not. In the State of Florida, for example, you cannot be prosecuted for flashing your headlights but in other States you can be.

I agree with Angelique, it's nice to be warned but then again there are so many are reckless drivers out there that shouldn't be warned.

I find this flashing headlight story very amusing. What a clever defense the alleged head light flasher came up with.

I see no issue in warning other driver about traffic officers when said traffic officers hide in the bushes and try to catch you out. If the location of speed traps where better regulated and the traffic department also kept to the speed limit, they would earn the respect of the drivers.

I agree that you should be able to warn someone as the traffic officers are supposed to force drivers to slow down, so warning them does so. They just want to make money out of the citizens

Agreed with Alexis. I this guy had every right to warn others.

Ah man wow! I really don't mind either way, its nice to be warned - especially when driving down on the way to holiday. But I do get it - there are reckless drivers out there that shouldn't be warned so our roads can be safer. You might not like it but at the end of the day, it could be saving a life.

As long as your intentions are good, the response you get does not really matter. It is natural to expect a positive respnonse from the other party but seldom does that happen.

I think its nice when people give you a heads up. In all honesty, you get speedsters, you get drunk drivers but you also get very corrupt traffic officers. So its nice when you are alerted too at times. I

I follow pigspotter on twitter, I do think its helpful to know where accident's are, but pigspotter also warns people of road blocks, I dont agree with this aspect as I dont ever believe you should be driving under the influence. I am ok with being warned about traps and traffic, but I guess people shouldnt be speeding either. This is a tough one...

It's really not worth trying to help others. They either take advantage or are just rude in response anyway

That really is one of the most accurate sayings. This is an interesting matter. Will have to make a note to see how it pans out.

FREEDOM of SPEECH - They pride themselves of that - I would say that this guys had every right to warn people if he wants

Jessica  said:

Shame poor guy was just trying to help another out, although a speeding car will slow down just for that brief moment and then speed up again and could cause an accident so are you really helping the speeding person???
