Country Playden is a nursery school run by Bridget Jones in Fourways. You can find the website at www.countryplayden.com. It is a nursery school in the Fourways area, right next to Dainfern, very close to Steyn City and not too far from Blair Atholl. My children have all gone to the nursery school and it has been a tremendously happy place for them.
It is sometimes sad to hear how education has become such a for profit centre that schools now, not content with having one’s children from Grade 1, are trying to march into the profitable nursery school area and early commercialise it like little factories as well. I am told Country Playden continues to lose pupils because parents at the school are told when they apply for their children to enter Grade 1 at local schools that unless they go there for kindergarten their child will not even get into Grade 1! In most cases it is absolute nonsense, designed to try and get even more money out of you from an earlier age at more money than a school with fewer kids in each class and charging more reasonably.
We heard the same stories and never struggled to get one of our four children into Grade 1 at the school we selected – who also told us the same stories, which we ignored. It really makes me sad that a school that put so much into the children, not to mention love, with small classes of 7 or 8 children, starts losing all its pupils, even at 4 years old, to the bigger schools in the Fourways area that already have 14 or 15 four and five-year olds per class! It is certainly a nursery school that I can wholeheartedly recommend to anybody in the Fourways area.

I completely agree. I was just recently told the same while searching for schools for my daughter to go to in grade 1. I saw the Pre-primary and there were approximately 22 children per class!!! At three years old that is crazy.
We refuse to take our child out of Country Play Den. It is a phenomenal school where the teachers put so much love into what they do. My daughter loves it so much that she even asks me to fetch her when after care ends and school closes: no earlier. :) Considering she once cried every morning when i dropped her off at the previous pre-school I am beyond impressed and satisfied with our choice.
Thank you for blogging about this.

It is very sad, why can your child not go to a school that you selected - you will know what is good for your child. Luckily the school we chose is a feeding school to the Primary School down the road, was not the intention and if i decided on another place and was told the same as you, I would have ignored it as well.

I don't have any children but I can imagine the stress one goes through when you have to leave your children there. I honestly think you just need to do a trail period at some of them and see how it goes. think some of these places just have way too many children to handle.

I agree with you Juliet, One has to be very careful when choosing the right nursery school or day care for your child. We moved from Klerksdorp to Jhb when our oldest (now 13) was still a baby. My husband and I had to make a decision on where to place our child (after he was at a terrific day care mother in Klerksdorp). We then chose a nursery school recommended by my sister-in-law, because a friend of hers had her son in there and could not stop praising the school. To cut a long story short, after 2 weeks that my baby was still crying when dropped off at school, and particularly when he saw one specific teacher, my sixth sense told me that he was afraid of her for good reason, and that I had to remove him immediately. We then found a very good day care mother who only had 5 children that she looked after. Happy child again!

But one should be cautious about making generalisations. For example, if one mother has told someone this then is it that correct? Perhaps this has all stemmed from one housewife being told something and now it has steamed up into a huge rumour at the book club in Dainfern! Come on. If I go to Country Den tomorrow will it be void of children? All the children have fled? I doubt it.

I have been looking for a nursery school for Adam for over a year now. No one would believe how much time and effort it takes to try and find a suitable yet affordable school for your child! Then there are feeder nursery schools etc so so much stress. I finally decided on one of these "top" nursery schools which he then attended for 1.5 days as he was injured badly, not given anything to drink and no bottle! So much for being a fantastic school. Honestly these nursery schools are all factories and it is very upsetting for a mother that I just cannot send my child to one of them in good faith.

This sounds like a good school. Good education from the start is very important.

Sounds like a great place to send your children. Its such a pity that private schools adopt that mentality. Schooling has just become a money making scheme.
