Listening to music at gym

I have noticed in the last year or two that there are a lot more people who go to gym in a decidedly anti-social way.  They are fully equipped with headphones or other audio devices and in some cases spend their time dancing around gym!  It is quite interesting to see the division between those using the latest headphones that are popular, namely the Beats versus the more in-ear type of headphones which are less visible such as the Jaybirds.  The Beats headphones by Dr Dre seem to be extremely popular and certainly for me, although they are hotter to wear over your ears, easier.  The Jaybird invariably tends to fall out of my ears.  I know many people can run, ride and jump off mountains wearing them, but I really struggle and it does not matter how much I change the ear fins, or the ear tips, whether it is silicon or foam, they still work some days for me and fall out other days!

What I also do enjoy about them is that I find it so much easier to get some of my lengthier cell phone conversations with staff for advocates completed, particularly while training.  I think sometimes I talk a little bit too much, but when I am on a treadmill or climbing stairs, I seem to have much less breath and far more time to be a good, patient listener. When I have the headphones on I also don’t have any distractions of the outside world, and can listen far more carefully to someone.  If I am not having calls, while I understand that most people while listening to music I invariably listen to radio, catching up on news shows and business news.  Of course, when all else fails and the devices need to be recharged, the simple corded ear device that comes with most phones is all that you need.

Earphones and CrossFit does not go together at all.
Every time our workout is different so it never gets boring.
I LOVE CrossFit!!
The Gym will never see me again

I don't have time to struggle with earphones when I gym ,I mean imagine doing jumping squats with earphones in your ears ,cords hitting you here and there then the one earphone falls out will irritate my life ,and I prefer not to look like a DJ when I'm training .When you go to the gym you have to know what to do and be in the zone and people will leave you alone when they see you are actually busy training and not worrying about what song to listen to next.

I don't feel like the gym is a social place. Why socialize at the gym? Have supper or go for drinks or something. I hate it when people try to talk to me at the gym. Everyone should use earphones.
Besides the fact that music is my life, it helps make the time go faster and also takes your mind off everything. I also feel like listening to music motivates me just a little more.
Music is my escape from this world. And I say that while listening to music.

I also find that certain earphones fall out of my ears and it annoys the livings daylights out of me. Especially when the beat drops -____- LOL... I must say, the Samsung earphones are the best. I'm still using them after 2 years. I don't even use my Sony earphones (Those are the annoying ones that just don't fit properly) It's like finding your Cinderella :''D The perfect fit ;) Hahaha

I use it to block out the world and focus on what i am doing, im sure that when you are at the gym, it also puts you in the mood and you cal follow the beat.

The world has become a lonely place, everybody is on the phone or with the earphones, nobody is looking in the eye and not saying good morning;-)
i love Jaybirds, they are comfortable for skipping or other high jump activities and also for running. the chunky earphones are too difficult for cardio workout and may be only suited for weights.

I don't see a gym as a social place. It annoys me when people especially guys try make conversation at the gym. Wearing earphones is a must - sometimes I even put in my earphones with no music playing if my battery is dead to avoid awkward conversations. Music motivates me while training. I do not really have a preference, I use normal i-phone earphones.
My boyfriend uses the beats by Dre - the big ones but complains that they chunky and get quite hot/sweaty. it is a funny site to see someone with the large "DJ" kind ear phones in the gym.

I do not like to have my hearing impaired in case of an emergency or danger. You cannot hear people screaming, "RUN! FIRE!" if your ears are blocked with music. I therefore never use earphones or ear plugs etc

Listening to certain types of music (like Prime Circle) just before gym or rugby training really helps me to get into the right frame of mind.

I live for my music! If I could have my earphones on all day long, that would make me a very happy person! I don't gym, but do the occasional walk, and when I do, my earphones are with me. It makes the walk seems so much quicker and it takes my attention away from the uphills that I need to climb! Even at home when I need some "me" time, I put my earphones on, and I drift away.......

I find gym can get a bit boring and I always listen to music while working out! I also find it more inspiring to listen to something like a dance or house song when running on the treadmill, it makes me run faster for some reason! I have also noticed the trend with the Dr Dre headphones, I think looks a bit odd like you should be a DJ at a club! I love exercising to music, it puts me in a great mood. Endorphin's and music! Happy place!

I do think that listening to music while exercising increases your focus and drowns out other distractions.

I can't gym without my earphones and my own genre of music, plus I hate when people try to make small talk when I gym, so earphones all the way. It gives me time to think about my own stuff

I would say that about 90% of the people at gym have headphones and are listening to music while the do their workout, this is of course apart from the people that attend gym to chat and spend more time chatting on the side that on an actual machine! Mandy always prides herself in the fact that she goes to gym every single day and in 5 years, she has not said a word to anyone other than greeting the staff at the entrance haha. I am one of those people that believe you are there to accomplish something and it is not a social event so I do prefer to block out everything and stay focused on the task at hand.

I like to listen to music while at gym, it definitively makes the time go by a but quicker. I use the in ear headphones, however, I don't have a problem with them falling out- perhaps I am not running as fast as I should :)
