Snap lists on the market

Snap has listed successfully on the Stock Exchange and they are the owners of the app Snapchat.  I use Snapchat, and I think it is quite useful for conversations and sending pictures as well as updating a storyline as to what you have been up to, etc.  From what I can see more of my staff members are on Instagram than on Snapchat and that is going to be one of the problems faced by Snap.

Instagram is owned by Facebook and they are obviously going to try and tackle, hurt and do everything they can to promote their business ahead of that of Snapchat.  Like Twitter, I struggle to see whether money is to be made with Snapchat.  That is not to say I don’t like the product, but I just don’t see how you turn a little bit of advertising into a massive revenue stream without irritating everybody and Twitter came to the market with the same high expectations and now any company who has looked into buying Twitter has later pulled out because they cannot see how they are going to make money out of it.

This app is new to me and I haven't heard a lot about it. I am on facebook but cannot remember when last I went on to my facebook page. Not sure if I would be interested in the SnapChat app

Personally, it boils down to user friendliness. Instagram is user friendly. Snapchat is not.

Snapchat is taking the app world by storm! So many very cool features and with its appeal to the younger generation - it is inevitable that it would be growing share. However, I wonder if it would simply be a fad? Noting the ever evolving technology.

I downloaded snapchat quite some time ago but I've never used it. There's just too many Apps and I sometimes feel like I can't keep up with all of them.

I have never downloaded Snap Chat or had the urge to, I know a lot of people use it but it is so similar to Instagram I don't see the point in having both.

There will be a lot of competition with social media's all the time, I am not a huge social media fan. I have WhatsApp, Facebook and that's it. I had twitter and found it to be boring and Instagram is just for photo's which I find boring too.

There are too many App’s lately and what I have noticed the more app’s you have in your phone it becomes slow.

It sounds like lots of people are not interested in Snapchat and instead go for Instagram and Facebook.

Very interesting to read all the comments below about the application I never hear of. But telling the truth there is no time to even try to download this Snapchat app, for quick massaging I only use Whats up and Viber with my family in Ukraine, I have lost all my interest in Facebook long time ago and if I need to send my photos to family I send by viber.

For a long time I didn't have Snapchat until fomo had me -_- I really think it's just a phase you go through though because I hardly use it anymore, and if I do it's when I'm out having fun with my friends. It's actually a pretty cool app to keep up with what everyone else is doing.
It's extremely annoying how all the apps are trying to compete though because you can basically do on Snapchat what you can do on Instagram. I barely use these apps anymore because they really are time consuming. For example, I would sit on social media to kill time.
I haven't downloaded the new Whatsapp but I saw the 'status' thing - which is basically Snapchat...

Can't we just use one app that does all of these things??

I don't know how well Snapchat will do on the Market. It's just a fad that will fade eventually

The filters on Snapchat are the only reason I had it for a while. But right now at the moment I prefer what’s app mostly and then Facebook and Instagram. I think social media will be the best way for businesses to advertise as everyone these days use some form of social media.

I do not use Snapchat or Instagram, but I have though about getting the app. I only have Facebook and enjoy it, I have a long lost Twitter account which I have never ever used. It is interesting how apps make their money - a friend of a friend owns Yummy Deals and I saw how long it takes to see a revenue from it.

I must say reading the comments below, most of us seem to be facebook / whatsapp fans. I have found whatsapp to be an amazing tool with friends and family all over the world. I had twitter for a brief period but became irritated with it. As with a lot of the comments i have read, i too was not familiar with Snapchat and not sure if i want to go onto it.

Snapchat is very innovative in that a "story" can only be viewed for a limited amount of time and the filters provide some people with daily entertainment, as they change every day. Even WhatsApp is following suit by introducing a new daily story feature. I believe that Snapchat will still make its mark in the social media world.

I often wonder how some app's make a revenue. WhatsApp for instance is massively popular in SA yet it has no advertising and you don't pay for the app. I have never used Snapchat, Twitter or Instagram so as to how they generate a revenue I would have no idea. It doesn't distract from the fact that these apps are all huge successes in their own right though. They're doing something right!

I also had no idea what snapchat was before today. I'm not one for these types of apps. I'll stick to my Whatsapp, I've deleted my facebook account years ago and never tempted to open it again. Don't have instagram nor twitter. Facebook will be hard to compete with, it has been popular for many years now and in the lead. Most people stick with what they know.

The only forms of social media I use are WhatsApp and Facebook. I tried Twitter for a very brief period but I soon lost interest. I'm ashamed to say I had no idea what Snapchat was prior to today.

I must be honest, I have never used Snapchat and I was on Instagram for a very short period. It really doesn't stick with me or fascinate me for long enough to stick around. I do however believe that a lot of these apps are not generating a massive profit at all.

I don’t have Snapchat, I actually never tried it, I don’t think it will ever be as popular as Facebook and Instagram. I had a Twitter account for a few days but then it was hacked and horrible pictures was all over the show so Twitter is a definite no for me.

Lourien  said:

I don't use snapchat as I prefer Facebook, Instagram and whatsup. There are too much competition out there and I think people has gotten used to certain types of communication and following people with certain apps.Regarding the market and shares I don't know if it would be a safe investment and we can only wait and see as time will tell.

Hi have snapchat but only use it for the funny pics. other than that i dont use it much... not to show what i am doing or silly updates. facebook is very hard to compete with. and the messaging is terrible on snapchat.

I enjoy using Snapchat and i think mainly because all my friends have it, it has awesome filters and you can catch up on every bodies life with Snapchat. Although i don't use it as much as i use to i have noticed that Instagram has been stealing a few ideas from snapchat

Juliet  said:

Social media... taking over the world. I have noticed that Whatsapp does the same thing as snapchat, so does Instagram and facebook. All these platforms have allowed you to post a story or live pictures/videos.Essentially all becoming the same thing so people are spoiled for choice. It is kind of cool if you like keeping up with celebs to see what they are up to but I have found that it becomes addictive. One tends to just watch what other people are doing and before you know it you have been sitting online for a few hours wasting time. I now limit myself to how often and for how long I can be online. Sounds ridiculous but its what I have to do not to get lost in "that world". Like everything, it may be something we "use to use" like BBM/Mxit.

I do not use either of these. But yes, Instagram will compete as it is all business at the end of the day and in order to make money, you need to sell your product
