Sunday Times App

I am quite unimpressed by the app that the Sunday Times has produced.  At a time when media really struggles to sell journalism – in other words, you need people to pay for writing, they need to make it far better.  The app for the Sunday Times requires you to log in – which is not unusual for anything – but it does not allow your username and your password to be remembered.  That is absolutely bizarre and it leads to a situation where, again and again, you must re-enter your username and your password.  I don’t know who they hired to design an app for them like that, but that is an absolutely ludicrous system and it is an extreme irritation that every time I want to read something from the Sunday Times or The Times I have to enter my en tire e-mail address as well as my password.  We have phoned them and complained about it and they said they will look into it – but I wonder how long it will take before they do have it fixed?

Why would you have a username and pasword for the Sunday Times why can't you just read it without having to enter your details over and over.

I would have said that it must be a safety feature but for what? Banking apps yes but The Sunday Times? They will probably upgrade if enough people complain lol... I believe things only happen after complaining...

Interesting to know that there is an application Sunday Times, but after reading the feedback I would not even waist the time to upload one. It is very frustrating to enter the same details all the time!

interesting read, im sure they want to focus more on their papers, but get with the times. and listen to the users of your app. yes some comments and rubbish but one can always improve

That is strange. People have usernames and passwords for everything nowadays. Its easy to use one username for all but perhaps the name you want is not always available then you have to go through the process of forgot password or name and get it emailed to you. No thanks.

That does seem annoying and the fact that they still have not looked into it... clearly shows that they ok to losing customers. I would much rather go onto news24 - no need to log in.In an age where we have multiple apps with log in details and passwords, it is literally impossible to always remember them. If i have to keep logging in, then I definitely do not even bother.

Any App that asks me for my username and password every single time I want to log in drives me insane, I just don't use is often. It's suppose to make life easier.

I would not be impressed at all by having to enter my password every time I log on to an app. I do not remember half of my passwords most of the time so having an app remember my password is essential for me.

Agreed that would annoy my life on a whole new level to the point of I will rather just delete the app and use google LOL. To remember all your passwords to all your things and user names becomes too much actually.

Ashleigh  said:

I actually do not want any news apps because the news here just depresses you and is full of negativity and politics.

An app is designed to make life easier for using not more difficult and time consuming.

Having to type in your username and password every time you want to use the app makes no sense at all. It is a waste of time and certainly has no value regarding the protection of your details because no confidential information is being inserted. I would certainly not use a news app that requires me to keep typing in my details time and time again.

Any app that requires me to log in every time with log in details and a password I just don't use. It's frustrating and time consuming. What I look for in an app is an app that makes life simpler and access to information quicker.

I don’t have the App, but if I can’t log in and save my details I simply won’t use the App again. There is nothing more irritating than to login every single time. It is supposed to be a quick update on the news not a “can I remember my password session”.

Joyce  said:

I think maybe they did this for confidentiality. But since there are complains about the app that it does not allow username and password to be remembered, let’s hope they will not take long to fix it.

It is quite irritating to type in your Username and password every time you want to log in to read the news.Sometimes people don't always remember their password and info. I prefer to read News 24

That is crazy its not like someone would put their confidential details on there, so it definitely doesn't need to be so secure. it is different if it were a banking app

The purpose of an App is after all to be user-friendly. The intention to keep your subscribers interested and hooked on something that easily accessible and easy to use. We live in a time where we demand immediate satisfaction and simplicity.

Alexis  said:

I would be quite irritated to have to put in my username and password every time, especially for something that is not private and confidential. I am unsure of how new this app is, however they may still be working out all of the kinks

Lourien  said:

In todays time it is all about keeping your client happy and to make it as easy as possible for them to access all their details. As it is we have so many passwords to remember such as email accounts, computer passwords, card pins, phone pins and so many more we would think they will give you a choice to save your login details on your browser.

Mathilda  said:

I also prefer News24 it is very convenient
But I'm sure this is just a minor error and will be resolved quickly

This will also annoy me to the extent that I will also delete the app. A person can understand if it was an app where you have person details on but to just read the news this will irritate me. My father in law also still buy the actual newspaper or its delivered at their house.

Michelle  said:
on Friday 02-Jun-17 11:39 AM
We still get our weekly newspaper every Wednesday. They also made a Facebook page. So normally when something happens in our hometown we can just have a look there, and read the full article the following Wednesday. I must say it’s quite nice when an app gives you the option to remember your details or not. I prefer to log my details in every time with certain things. But like the Times newspaper I will think to stay logged in will be the best option.

Dune  said:

That will annoy me to such an extent that I will delete the app. I too love reading the news etc, and I rely mostly on the EWN app. It is definitely ludicrous for you to constantly log in to your app on your phone, if they do not attend to the issue soon then I am sure that they will loose a lot of support.

Suzanne  said:

I will also be unimpressed by this, how irritating. They should really fix the issue and make it more user friendly. I would probably not use it because of this.

Zanell  said:

I prefer News24, you don't need a password or anything. I am sure this app will be improved and that they can now work on the difficulties that everybody is experiencing with this app.

Juliet  said:

I am sure they will have that fixed. Probably just a teething problem. My father still buys and reads the physical newspaper every day. I will always have his memories of him sitting and reading his newspaper while the news is on the T.V. So there is an example Bianca :) I think a lot of older people still buy them because that is what they are used to and their eyesight isn't great to read on a small cell phone screen.

Thabitha  said:

Maybe the App is slow because of the volume of people browsing at the same time and what worries me about new things is people are going to lose jobs.

Bianca R  said:
on Friday 02-Jun-17 09:30 AM
I have browsed around on the Sunday Times App and it is relatively user friendly apart from having to log in constantly which they did say they are looking into and hoping to fix by the beginning of June. I was actually mentioning to Jess this morning that I can believe there is still a market for buying a physical newspaper and I wonder how many people actually still prefer to read a physical newspaper or don't have the means to have their news delivered to them via an app.

It seems a little archaic to say the least but I dont think that it is fair to discredit the tabloid for a minor technical default.
