Goodbye Zuma

I think we are all generally delighted to say goodbye to Jacob Zuma.  I know he says he is very popular with a certain element within the ANC, but I would imagine it is more limited than he thinks it is, and limited largely to those who benefitted with him.

I think that popularity will also diminish as more and more is written and comes out about what happened during his presidency.  South Africa has really been taken to a bad place politically and it is going to take some amazing work to get it back from where it has been dragged down to.  Goodbye Jacob Zuma and may we never have as bad a leader as you in the new South Africa ever again.

I couldn't agree more with this blog. Some seriously bad damage was done to South Africa and it's going to take a strong leader and very hard work to get back on our feet. I really hope the new president does not let us down and starts to make empty promises. I think our country has suffered enough and hopefully we'll see the light in the dark tunnel soon.

I, for one, am ecstatic that this thief has gone. I know it is too soon to say anything about CR, but, since he was voted as the new president of SA, I have a feeling of pride, once again, for our country. Let us hope he runs the country like he does a business, successfully and with the bottom line being in the black. I respect him as a person and all he has achieved in his life and I certainly will give him a chance to change this country for the better. Viva Cyril Viva.

Is unfortunate to see somebody who fought for his people turn greedy. the man is going to jail and it has already shows that his house made of cards is falling apart .

This is an achievement for the whole of South Africa, but from what I can see after watching the SONA, is that Cyril has big hopes nd promises for the future of South Africa but where is the action in this? We all hope for the change and not merely speaking well.

His resignation was just the beginning of the extremely long road ahead of our country, for recovery. Unfortunately a lot of positive work needs to be done in order to undo his absolutely disgusting "leadership." I would like to believe that this is the beginning of a new era in our country and that our country and it's economy would just continue to grow from strength to strength, and a prayer for good leadership by the new Pres.

This has been a massive topic of discussion the past few days, even under people who never talk about politics and I think we are all relieved with the news. May this country rise to where it is supposed to be.

South Africa still has a long road ahead of it. Zuma is the beginning and offers a symbol of hope in our country's future, however, we are still in some pretty hefty debt and no doubt still have problems and corruption in our government sectors. But ousting Zuma is definitely a start and let's hope it's just the first step in creating a better South Africa

Sharne  said:

This is definitely a very welcome decision, and I feel hopeful and optimistic about the future with Cyril Ramaphosa being South Africa's new leader. I agree with Jadine about the SONA, it was a breath of fresh air to listen to and hopefully we can now start rebuilding what was damaged by Zuma and those benefiting.

Angelique Jurgens  said:

The decision is definitely welcomed. His supporters like you say - were the ones benefiting from him being in power. Alot of people are anti Ramaphosa but to me anyone is better than Zuma. Hopefully that is not the end and we get to see all his wrong in the light and in front of our courts.

I am still in shock that it has finally happened. First Mugabe and now Zuma. I am generally optimistic about the political attitude Africa is developing. Maybe there is some hope for us after all. I welcome President Ramaphosa with open arms. I was particularly pleased to listen to SONA being delivered by someone who actually has a grasp of what it is that he is saying.

It took a lot for him to announce his resignation - his own party had lodged a 'Motion of No Confidence' against him and I think that it was a clear indication that his popularity had worn thin! All his minions within cabinet are soon to recieve the axe as well, as the imminent reshuffle approachs! What a time to be a South African - Let's embrace the positive change!
