Photography tips – use a tripod

Photography has always been one of my key hobbies and I really enjoy taking pictures, in particular of my children, and also sports events as well as beautiful landscapes.  When it comes to landscapes, probably my favourite thing at the moment is to take 4 or 5 photographs and use the photomerge feature to merge them all together.  The capabilities of Photoshop in that regard are now so much more advanced than in the past, to the extent that it can even fill in parts of the sky where it might be missing with the content or colouring.

My basic advice though to anybody who asks me is firstly, for all your kids’ videos, even if you are shooting them on your cell phone, buy yourself a mini tripod.  Keeping the camera still makes the world of difference and it will really add a more professional look even to your home videos.  Professional photographers take all of their photographs with a tripod, and while you can get away with taking a photo without a tripod, you cannot get away with video footage without a tripod.  It always looks terrible, except perhaps to you, and people are too polite to tell you, and those mini little tripods that you can pick up quite cheaply that just holds your cell phone in place really do a fairly decent job.  The other principle is just to remember the two-thirds principle and try and have the objects of interest two-thirds up the screen and sometimes one-third up the screen, but even using a grid feature on your camera to properly position people can be very useful.

Videos are not easy to be taken via cell phones this tripod will help and thank you for the advice.

Not much of a photographer, but thank you for the advice regardless. It makes sense, and you will have a lot more focus than holding it by hand, esp if you do not have a steady hand

I agree a tripod makes a huge difference only thing is you don't always have it with you when you need it for those spare of the moment pics. love the idea of a tripod for a phone much more convenient however camera quality is not always the same on a phone.

These tips will definitely come in handy. Might just invest in one

These are some useful tips. I am a terrible photographer and my sister never lets me forget it when we are out hiking or even just taking a family photo. I think I should definitely try out a tripod in order to sharpen up my photography skills.

I`ve recently saw an advert on you tube where the people use a tripod and it surely looks like a very usable accessory to have if you love taking photos etc. I think it’s very nice especially for example if a family goes on holiday and want to take a picture of everyone at once and nobody`s around at that moment. It will surely give much better quality to videos. I like the facts that people keep inventing better accessories regarding photography, because it’s the best way to relive memories again. You will never waist your money to stay up to date with photography technology.

I am not the best photographer, I usually just take photos to capture the memory and that’s about it. It is very fascinating to see that there are so many useful inventions to improve the quality of a photograph!

Tripods greatly improve a photograph's quality. Nowadays tripods can be bought for most devices and can be very reasonably priced.

With or without a tripod you have the skill to pull off beautiful photographs. Not many people invest in a tripod.

Photography is not really something I enjoy. But if you enjoy taking photos then this tripod will be efficient.

I love the look of the tripod in the pic. When I think tripods a visual of something large, bulky and impractical to carry around comes to mind. This one is none of those and something I would definitely look at using. Regarding the two-thirds principle- I think I may have been doing photography wrong all this time!

I am not big on photographer but when it comes to these mini cheap tripods I would imagine the amateur photographers are loving them. Just goes to show hobbies don't have to be expensive and one can achieve pretty impressive things with non-professional equipment.

I haven't seen many people invest in a tripod, but it can make a major difference in the way one records a video or take a picture. This is about the quality for capturing moments and I'm all for it

Tripod is definitely a must have, especially if you try and capture a video of your little one doing something cute. Will have to invest in one. Some days i just feel like taking photos of flowers or the sky really think that will come in handy.

I tried to get into photography and making a real concerted effort to play around with different angles etc, also using a tripod, unfortunately its not something that really grabbed me. The tripod certainly gives you stability which you will not have otherwise. That being said, sometimes it is just more convenient and quicker to snap on your phone.

I have to agree with you here. I recently attended my daughter's engagement shoot and, even though it was being done in a field, a beautiful one at that, with lots of rockery and long grass and flowers, etc, the photographer had her tripod and moved it around all over. The pictures were amazing. Well worth the money.

The tripod looks way more efficient than a selfie stick. I've once used a selfie stick and my phone popped out, the tripod seems more stable which mean it would eliminate the camera from shaking. Definitely something to get for high quality videos and pictures.

Its quite cute the tripod stand. I'm not too into photo's but sure that my children would love it. I cannot tell you how many selfies my daughters have taken. :)

I absolutely love photos. After my brother passed away all we had from him was photos. Since then I realized how important photos actually are. I have a tripod and and I love it!

I do not necessarily have a keen interest in photography but do have a Tom-Tom Action Camera to capture some of my travels and have found that my favourite assistive device is a 'guerrilla arm', it is pretty much a single leg of a tripod (very similar to the picture above) and can be bent in many ways!

I don't really like photos of myself but I do like taking photos especially of my little boy. This is really cool my Brother loves taking photos so I'm sure he can benefited from this bog.

I agree that quality photos are taken if the camera is still but I do think it's difficult getting a tripod that is at the right height for taking group photos and setting it up in different spots can take a lot longer than using a selfie-stick, obviously if you don't mind paying more then a professional tripod is a good tool for those videos and group pictures.

If you really are serious about photography and it is something that you enjoy you would want to do it the best you can, and if it means that you would need to invest in it I don't see why you would not want to.

The bottom line is that if you do something, you must do it 100% . If you take photo shooting serious, I agree one should invest in it .

the is nothing I enjoy like taking pictures of my self and well posting them up on my social media and having them in my phone and in my laptop, it show that one has fun and also bad memories in their lives. taking a picture is mostly about remembering the day and how it was like, but mostly help to have a memory of that day and worse that year
