Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban

I attended the FIFA World Cup semi-final between Germany and Spain at the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban. I must say that I was very impressed by the stadium and is most probably the most beautiful of all the stadiums that I have been to, but it does not have the same capacity to hold huge numbers like Soccer City does, and the other weakness is that the stands are too far away from the action. From the shape of the field, to me, it looks like they plan to put an athletics track in and people that are sitting behind the goal posts would be, for example, 30 metres further back from the action than they might be in a similar seat at either Ellis Park or at Soccer City and even up in the stands, alongside the field, where I was, one felt that one was sitting far further back from the action than I was in similar seats in Soccer City.

At night, certain parts of the stadium almost resemble a giant UFO, and it looks ideal to host pop concerts. The location, right next to the Suncoast Casino and the sea is also a superb one, and the entire precinct was clean and smart.

Four hundred and something days to go before rugby world cup - bring the soccer back! We're not doing too well with Tri-Nations - playing NZ AND have the Ref against us..... Everything has gone back to normal far too soon....

Cape Town's stadium is the most beautiful to me but of course I have not been there. Only saw on tv and some pictures.
This one definitely looks like a place you would have performances and I think a lot of interesting stunts could be performed here.
All in all I think every stadium is unique and they were built with an alternative plan to the Soccer World Cup.

There is rumour that Duban wants bid to host the 2020 summer olympics. Perhaps there is method in their design. It's a magnificent looking stadium.
