It was quite impressed when I tried the DSTV Mobile system recently, with the Drifta wireless decoder. It is the new product from DSTV that allows you to watch TV on your iPhone or your iPad, for example, and while there are a limited number of channels at the moment, it works far better than I would have imagined. The picture does freeze every now and then, although it seldom loses the sound, and would be a great way, for example, to keep up with breaking news on CNN or watching some of the sports channels.
I was a bit disappointed that the horseracing channel (channel 232) is not on yet, and that there were not more news channels, but I am sure that that will follow as the product takes off. It also does not use any data, being a wireless system, and so effectively all it does is cost you your R600,00 that the modem costs, and you then got TV on your phone. The Drifta modem itself is probably a little bit bigger than I thought, being the size of a credit card, but naturally thicker, probably similar to the thickness of a small iPod. I would imagine, for example, that it would become extremely popular at sports grounds. You could be in the audience watching the match live, and when there is a contentious decision you will be able to see the slow motion replays at the same time that an audience does at home and have a little bit more of a perspective on the game.

I agree with Juliet, why do you want to watch TV 24/7! When will you make time to have a conversation with your husband, boyfriend, family if you are watching TV the whole time. I do like technological, but I will never get this. Just to imagine what our children will grow up with.

I appreciate technology but why don't we all just get a microchip implanted in our heads that way we will always be up to date with everything. I mean what is the point of watching TV at home, then in your car, then at the shops. You don't even talk to anyone about what you saw as you are too busy watching the next thing. Soon interaction will be lost forever.

wow, im also loving this..i mean ecspecially for those days when you away and have no means of watching an episode of your favourite soapie or reality show..
technology is constantly changing and we have to keep up with these changes, i feel, because it truelly does make ones life so much more easier and convienant.
good invention.

I do not like it all! I think television already steals a lot of family time as it is – now you can watch it where ever you go, which means that you can literally sit on the beach and watch DSTV, which will happen, so again family time is out the window…. I am not the biggest fan of technology as it is, so I might be the “party pooper”, but, I belief that time with eg. your children are priceless and people should realize this before it is to late: you can record a show to watch it later, but, time can never be turned back to spent with someone you love.

It’s amazing isn’t it? It makes me reflect on the movie “Wall-e” and how we as a generation are becoming more and more dependent on technology to simply run on a day to day basis.

My one friend had one and we love it, 'portable tv'. And small enough to fit in my handbag. Yes, you are limited to channels but it is better than nothing.

Wow, technology is improving everyday! Now we have DSTV on 'our' phones? am impressed.
I wouldn't mind having sopies, Discovery channel and fashion channels added later on, that would be very nice.

My brother recently bought this. It's R600.00 for the modem and then an additional R36.00 per month if you do not own a DSTV decoder already. We enjoy it a lot as we like watching sport mostly. One problem i have with it is that you cannot come NEAR it with a cell phone, it freezes the whole thing and the second you take it away it's fine again. We use it on our laptop though. Not sure how it is on the iPad etc.
