Chanelle Henning’s murder

It has taken a long time for the police to confirm that Chanelle Henning’s husband is a suspect in her murder. It is one of those cases where you kept thinking it was only a matter of time before an announcement like that was made, because of the references to phone calls made.

It is the kind of shocking and disgusting act that really appals one. One wonders how any man, could so lose control of his mind, or be so out of control that he was not already locked up, that he can be paying people to go along and shoot his ex-wife and leave their child without a mother. No doubt we will find out in due course who is behind this and whether or not the husband is involved, and until then, people will speculate.

We only get one chance in life on this planet and it is terribly sad how many people there are out there that are prepared to organise the end of somebody else’s life and how many people will commit murder, for other people, simply for a fee as if it is a job. I don’t believe in the death penalty because there are just too many people who history has shown have been executed on the basis of tainted evidence, police set-ups and lying witnesses, but it is these types of cases that make one waiver a little. The appropriate thing, to my mind, is for whoever is behind it, if they have been caught, to go ahead and do the right thing and spare the State and society the costs of feeding and looking after them in a cell for the next 20 or 30 years.

I find it absolutely disgusting that somebody can arrange the death of anybody, let alone somebody that they were once married to and hopefully loved. What makes it worse is that it seems that people don't think about the consequences of their actions (Eg: children having to grow up without 1 or possibly both parents, family members having to deal with the trauma after the murder.)

I think that peole can so easily take the lives of others or arrange murders because, in South Africa, criminals do not have a fear of being caught and therefore go ahead commiting crimes, knowing that it's unlikely that they'd be caught, and even if they do get caught, they might not even get punished.

I don't think that the death penalty will have a huge effect on reducing crime. What would have a better effect is, if criminals knew that they would definitely get caught and be punished. That way they would think twice before even committing a crime.

There are so many similar stories that happened that I know of in less than a year. The first one was the father that murdered his paralyzed son and wife, and then tried to gas himself in the car, this was really sad to me as I went to school with the paralyzed boy, and we were friends, apparently the reason behind this was that there were financial troubles, which is still not acceptable. Secondly the Chanelle Henning's murder and then lastly Johan Kotze, the man that arranged for his wife to be raped and shot his stepson.

These are all gruesome and inhumane murders, not just because of the manner these murders took place, but also because in all 3 cases these men were the fathers, someone to look up to and to trust.

I personally think that the death sentence should be brought back to bring back order in this country.

I think this man is a selfish, sick human bean for being able to to plan the death of the mother of his son. He needs to be put away in jail with the rest of those sick criminals.

some people should not be allowed in society and he is one of them. What type of father could look at his son growing up without a mother? , parents are so important to our life. The worst is, should he be put in jail this poor boy would have lost both his parents.

Looking very forward to seeing the outcome of this case..If he is involved he should be put in jail-immediately!

Not sure how I would go about forgiving someone like this if I were Chanelle's family for example. But I guess you get to a point in your life where the bitterness just eats you up from the inside. Because that's what hate does, it eats you up until you're a bitter person yourself. Thinking of the family and that little boy.. I can't imagine what they're going through.

I'm not too sure WHAT to say. What goes wrong in someone's life that drives him/her to such gruesome acts? I would want to kill him but that puts me in the same category then... To wish someone else would kill him is wrong too. We ought to forgive and pray - to live up to some of God's expectations sometimes is just sooooo hard.....

Even if they find him guilty and he gets sentenced, he will get out in no tim again. He will just act all good in prison or either qualify for medical parol, we are living in such a cruel world. Thats why I rather prefer to be over protective over my kids or rather be called paranoid

Just wondering how he sleeps at night knowing that he arranged for his wife to be killed and clearly he does not deserve to be a father at all.

I feel sorry for the little boy who will grow up without a mother.

I completely agree, it is shocking and disgusting! How can you as a father kill even your ex wife and leave your children without a mother. Does he not think that his children love their mother and cant imagine life without her - what gives him the right to take their mother away from them. It will always bother me and I will always wonder what really goes on it someone's head to actually go through with murdering and taking another persons life - yes maybe hate or whatever the case but how does a hitman live with himself killing people? Sickening really!

This is sad, but when the person is evil he/she always thinks of the evil he/she can do to hurt innocent people.

It shows that this man didn't care about his kids or pain and suffering, I am sure it was not difficult to take the life of his ex-wife. Imagine that boy is going to grow up without a mother.

Nowadays people can kill in the name of money, shame this world is terrible.

This seems to be happening more often. I am for the death penalty, agreeing with Lucretia, obviously if there is no doubt that that person committed the crime. In Saudi Arabia they have the death penalty (not sure if this changed since my dad went there), and he said that everything is open and not a thing stolen etc. But then again, if you can kill someone for money, would losing your own life really make a difference in your thought process? How do these people sleep at night? What irritates me most, is that I, a law obliging citizen, has to pay for criminals to stay in jails (where they get food etc.) Disgusting!

This really shows how careless some people are. They think they can get away with anything. And I really wish that the death penalty would come back. There's so many criminals in our country who really deserves that type of punishment.

Some people are just selfish, always thinking about themselves. If he is guilty, this little boy will be with out a mother and a father, and having to grow up knowing his father murder his mother. I don't know how a person can be so emotionless!!!!!!!

Does one honestly believe that people who can organise the death of someone else really cares about us taking care of them. I am sorry, i am all for the death penalty. Particularly when hardened criminals are caught and there is no shadow of a doubt as to who committed the crime. This will most definitely bring down the crime rate because would be criminals would realise their life is at stake and hopefully think twice before committing a crime.

For me, what is equally shocking to someone arranging a loved one's murder is the fact that someone is prepared to be paid to murder that person for money and sometimes very little money. Morals seem to have flown out the window for many people in society and one has to wonder when society will fall apart completely. There is absolutely no respect for law and order any more

Too disgusting to even imagine....that poor boy, I can't imagine how he's feeling and what pain and suffering he's experiencing. Too sad.

On Friday afternoon I heard on the news that police can not find any motive/evidence on the ex-husband but telephone records show that he phoned one of the accused so what is that all about then??!! and they still released him!

I want to know his motive and am looking forward to see him or the actual master-mind behind this whole thing put behind bars!
