SA Breweries has been a huge hit on the Stock Market, up more than 100% in the last two or three years, and they are doing even better when it comes to selling beer in South Africa. For the last five years their market share has dipped below 90%, but they are back now over 90% as a result of Amstel, losing about half the market it used to have. Amstel is now a brand of Heineken. Business has to be really good when you complain about dipping below 90% of market share!
The biggest winner, when it comes to beer sales, is Castle Light which has doubled its number of sales in three and a half years. So, it does not really matter what has happened to the economy, the one thing that is booming is beer sales and SABMiller as a company is doing fantastically well.

Unfortunately for most people this is the first and last thing they would spend their money... and for some people it lets them relax after a long day of work...

Beer sales will always boom given the rate at which people drink.

I think SAB advertising attracts lots of people in different attitudes to alcohol and sometimes you can hear some people talking about "after tears" and they mean alcohol party after funeral

Well done to SAB I guess. I agree, no matter how the economy is doing, people buy alcohol. Sad, happy, bored - people drink. It is a sad reality

SAB will always be a leading company for as long as people live they will have to produce alcohol.

I used to do promotions for SAB and they were always popular. The people that work there seem to be on a constant party too......

They have also changed their adverts on tv to much more humorous and attention grabbing adverts. I feel their marketing strategy changing has also influenced such success.
lol and of course Davids contributions on Fridays from 12pm .

SAB will always be on top - even in a bad economy. People get depressed they drink, people are happy they drink, the poorest of the poor will always somehow still find the money to buy alcohol/beer. I cannot comment on the types of beer as I find the taste disgusting and cannot understand why anyone would drink besides to get drunk! Its a male drink in any case!

Really it doesn't matter what has happened to the economy alcohol is selling, because people are doing (phuza) everyday

If I should pick a brand it will be Castle Light - I do not enjoy drinking beer though. How does the well-known saying go.... No matter what they charge, it's still a bargain....

castle light is awful stuff. black label beer, however, is the nectar of the gods. so glad SAB is doing well. must be my contribution...
