Petrol price increases

We are at a time of the year when the international fuel price typically increases.  The worst possible combination for us is the Rand weakening at the same time and that unfortunately is exactly what is happening.  You can always see the daily update indicating what the fuel price will be at http:/www.cef.org.za/images/petrolprice/daily.pdf.  It was indicating a few days ago that the international price has gone up about 15c a litre depending on the grade of petrol that one uses and that the movement in the exchange rate would add another 19c.  That means, and it is very early in the month, but having just being faced with an increase, we are looking at a potential increase of about 35c a litre at the end of this month with those who use diesel facing a 17c per litre increase.  If the Rand stays weak for the rest of this month, we could be looking at considerably more.

Once again, SA is only able to produce nothing but more bad news to its fellow comrades.

i tell you, this bloody useless government will only be happy once they have destroyed the Rand, have a 100% unemployment rate, and petrol more expensive than gold.

It is very sad that the public transport developed in this country so bad and very scary to catch the taxi to work. Some people does not have choice but today who has a car has to pay so much just for a basic transport to school and work! The cost of leaving is very high, I miss times when I could of walk to work or take a bus in Odessa, Ukraine.

I can't remember when last i heard that petrol is going down for a change, if it does go down its with 7c or so, but always goes up more than 20c. Its getting ridiculous.

Its easier for the young adults who still live with their parents to cut down on expenses. Their parents still cover most of their living costs e.g water, electricity, roof over your head, rates and taxes the list goes on... it is more complicated for those fitting their own bills when everything goes up at once

When will the increases ever stop? Petrol is just getting so expensive and this may have very negative consequences on our country.

This is depressing but is a way of life I suppose. Petrol is one of those things we cannot go without and we must just cut down on the luxury items instead to be able to afford this expense.

This is really shocking. It is not just Fuel prizes that are increasing, everything is increasing. Life in general is very expensive these days. I can still remember when i was small, my parents gave us a R1......and how much sweets and things you could buy. Now, you can't even by anything with a R100.

This is extremely worrying. I believe its going to be a hard year financially if it starts like this, because it is not only petrol and diesel going up but every single thing.

Brenda  said:

The worst one can do is start to worry about finances, because the minute you start to worry, that is when the paw paw hits the fan. It is better to sit and think about the situation, and see where you can cut down on expenses to accommodate the ever increasing prices of not only petrol but food and all other necessities. Prices that are increasing is not something we can stop, and complaining about it does not make the problem disappear. The best thing we can do, is just be positive, because when you are positive, things always seem to work out for the better. The more negative you are, the more unhappy you will be. We need to just work wisely with our finances and everything will be okay in the end.

Sheena  said:

Tersia  said:

Really not something someone wants to hear on a Monday morning or even in the beginning of a new year... If it already is starting this way how much worse is it going to get through out the year?

Nicolle  said:
on Monday 13-Jan-14 08:56 AM
Long gone are the days where a R100 note would make a dent in your petrol gage...

Seriously depressing sigh ...
