Cashless parties

I was quite impressed with some of the developments that are happening overseas in terms of major musical festivals and how one pays.  They are going much more towards a cashless society and what they are doing now is that, like most concerts, you get your wrist band, but overseas they are beginning to use chip-enabled wrist bands that basically not only provide you access to the concert, but you activate it with your credit card so that, by presenting your wrist band, you can pay for anything – whether it is merchandise that the various pop stars are selling, food, drinks, etc and you don’t have to pull out cash.  If you lose your wrist band, it is not the end of the world because it is still activated by you with a pin code, so the person who takes your wrist band, which is not an easy thing to steal off your wrist in the first place, is not going to be able to do anything with it without your pin code.  Of course, the benefits include not only that you don’t have to carry cash and run the risk of having it stolen or lost, but more importantly it speeds up the payment process and allows the vendors to serve more people more quickly – something that is a common complaint at concerts in South Africa.

This sounds like a very good idea. I hope that it will come to South Africa. It will hopefully minimize crime a little, and would be great to not carry a handbag around anymore.

and nobody can cheat you with a change as barmen are famous for cheating on change with drunk people.
i agree the Caron, the less to carry the better. i hate carrying bags, it is like dragging luggage with you everywhere.

I agree with all this is a great idea, I also hate to carry thing with me..... and I think it can get really annoying at concerts.... Much better this way

Brilliant innovation indeed. I totally agree with the idea of not carrying so many bags when going out which in the end attracts the robbers and all the muggings.

This will be an awesome idea. There are always incidents at big events where people are pick pocketed, so if this comes into action, it will certainly make a difference.

Seems like a good idea but will it work here is South Africa.

I think its an good idea ,because its more convenient then carrying a bag full of bank cards and cash .

Great idea it will definitely be more convenient, but in SA they will probably find a way to clone it

I think this is great to be used at a concerts the rows are always soooo long because then this one can't find his tickets and that ones card does not work this will be so much more convenient and save.

This is a great idea but I don't think it would work here. If it was a flawless system, then it would be brilliant.

Such a great idea! I love going to concerts and this would be so handy.

This is such a great idea. A lot of the music festivals that I have been to only use a card that you load money onto prior to the event and use that to buy drinks, food and merchandise for the weekend, but a band will be better as it won't be easily lost.

Love the idea. Hate the wallet and bag, the less to carry the better. Need a wrist phone too!

That's a very nice system would like something like that not only for concerts but also for many other things we need something like that in this country. maybe we will have less crime.....

It sounds to me like the wrist band is just replacing the card. Not sure if I would be happy walking around with my card exposed so the wrist band would be a little worrying, especially in a country like South Africa.

What about those people who are not old enough to have a credit card or have bad credit ratings and are not allowed to have credit cards? Seems like a terrific idea on the face of it though.

I was on a boat cruse and you paid in money or linked a card then you get a card with your photo and name they also gave you a clip so that it hangs around your neck. was also so nice not to walk around with a wallet ect.

Love it. You just cannot carry cash or other forms of valuables around with you anymore especially at concerts where you have very little or no control over thieves. Its on your wrist and you can just relax and enjoy yourself. Doesn't make a great jewelry accessory but hey, life is simplified this way.

I like this idea in that way i do not need to carry a bag then my arms are free from irritating hang on.

This sounds like a really great idea! It would make life so much more safer. Maybe one day it will also be installed in supermarkets like Woolies and Pick n Pay ect. Now I think that would be a great idea!!

Marisa  said:

It seems like a great idea as you don't need to carry bags around but when you having fun you get carried away and would spend more then I really would not want to see what you have to pay at the end of the day.

Zindy  said:

I love the idea! I would definitely be first in line to get one of these wrist bands. Hate carrying bags at a concert. It just gets in the way. Especially when the going is good and you out dancing or what ever the case may be, then you don have to worry about who is going to watch your bag.

Alexis  said:

This is an awesome idea. No need to bring anything extra with you. No chance of things getting stolen. Speeds things up.

Helen  said:

I think this is amazing innovation, I am absolutely agree with Lizanne, there is no need to take the hand bag anymore or big wallet with different cards and cash in. Interesting when we will see this in South Africa.

Lizanne  said:
on Friday 24-Oct-14 07:29 AM
I also think that this is a great idea because your only need your wrist band when you go shopping. No more handbags, wallets, having to draw money. Although, they will definitely get a way to steal it off your wrist if this becomes the new trend.

Not a bad idea. accept not all children own credit cards, yes I'm sure their parents will obviously have, but you can imagine how that could get out of control, buying all their fiends cold drink and whatever else is to sell etc. But not a bad idea.

I think this is a great idea! Especially with the crime rate at these concerts. I watched how some of the teenagers at Joburg day were so oblivious to the thieves around them. They work in operation - the one bumps into you from the front and the other digs in your bag or your pockets from the back. Hopefully SA catches on to this soon!
