Work begins on Cedar Road

I am glad to see that people are finally begun working on widening Cedar Road, particularly outside the Dainfern and Steyn City entrances.  It has been needed for a long time and especially as Steyn City develops, it will become more critical.  What worries me though is the tremendous amount of cyclists who use this strip of road for weekend rides before returning typically to the Broadacres area for breakfast.  I honestly believe that the cyclists need to find a new route, because if they continue to ride on it, while it is undergoing upgrading and widening as it is now, I don’t think it takes too much to predict that there will be a number of deaths on this stretch. As my photo illustrates, side barricades have been put up on the road, in some way narrowing the space for the cyclists to ride and basically forcing them across into cars, and I just hope that as soon as cyclists see what development is taking place, that they find another place to ride for the next six months until the road is sorted out.

I think it's not safe for cyclists to ride there until the road is fixed.

I actually saw the road works a while ago... That road is chaos so it's good to know they are making it wider.

It's always good news when they are working on our roads, no denying it needs a lot of attention.

And I'm always nervous driving past a cyclist, adding a barrier to the mix makes it even worse I agree they should consider another route.

I think that all cyclists shouldn't be riding on our roads anyways, they should do off roads because of how bad our accident rate is.

Cyclists are always cycling on the road where it is dangerous, there should be a safe route to travel on specially for cyclists. It might be amazing to cycle early mornings and late evenings as you get a different view of environment, but they really need to plan their routes better. Accidents happen so easily.

I just drove along this road on Sunday and it was terrifying. I think these cyclists are either suicidal or have a God-complex

I think it will take the first death to open their eyes. Glad they are widening the road, will most definitely help with the congestion which probably happens now.

Soon we will see bumper stickers: "Think Cyclist". LOL! "No cyclist, think car!"

My friend's dad does that route on his bike every weekend, from the pic it looks incredibly dangerous! I am very happy about the widening of the road. The development in the whole fourways area has been painful but worth it. The area really needed upgrades. The new shopping centre in Dainfern has turned out great and finally there is a nice shopping centre in the area!

Thats very dangerious for the Cyclists,As there can be cars coming by and knock them over by mistake,They need to find another route until the road is done with the contruction work.
