Tiger Woods is back

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a huge Tiger Woods fan.  When I was young I always wanted to meet Nelson Mandela and Tiger Woods.  I did not “meet” Nelson Mandela, but I did get to shake his hand over a fence at the Wanderers cricket grounds and I will never forget that.  I think if I had made more of an effort, in terms of writing him the letters that I should have, I would have had a better chance, but I didn’t do it.  I guess most people that get to shake somebody’s hand would probably say that they met them, and I guess in a sense I did, but I don’t really consider that a meeting.  I just always remember that he did boxing and boy, his hands were much bigger than mine!

In any event, I did meet Tiger Woods last year.  He was extremely kind to my son as well – playing games with him, stealing chips off his plate and teasing him and whatever the haters may say, when somebody’s nice to you and to your family, you will always like them.  Having said that, as a massive Tiger Woods fan I honestly thought that with his latest back operation, which is the fourth he has had, including a fusion, the would never, ever really make it to the top of the game again.  He is not a youngster, he is 42 now, competing against 21 year olds, 23 year olds and 27 year olds all the time – I am mentioning the ages of three of the top 10 players in the world including the number one player in the world, Justin Thomas.  Well, his comeback has surprised even the fans and two weeks ago he came second by one shot.  This week he played in the Arnold Palmer invitational, which is played at Bayhill in Orlando and he finished 5th.

Its good to hear that even though he has a reputation his head is not in the clouds, he sounds like a normal down to earth person. His experience counts in his favor even if he is older.

Sjoe that is good for him, but I think there will come a time when someone younger will start to replace you and be better. It's like in Formula One, for how many years Michael Schumacher was the best. No one could even come close to beating him, and then much younger guys came in the race and started to take the podium from him one race after the other. You can't always for the rest of your life be the at top I suppose.
They say to meet your hero or idol is sometimes a disappointment as they aren't always what they seem to be, so I am very glad in your case that he was very nice and it was a lovely experience to have met him.

It is truly amazing to be able to meet someone you have been wanting to meet since you were young. What is great is that even though Tiger Woods is so extremely talented even as he gets older, he seems to still be a normal person that can interact and relate with his fans.

Age is a big factor but when you are so talented , not even that can hold you back. Tiger Woods is a legend and I think whatever his performance is from here on out he will always be remembered as an extremely gifted golfer.

How nice it must be to meet your role model. I don't know much of Tiger Woods, but I know who he is and the few things that I’ve heard and seen he has always looked like a very humble person to me. This guy was certainly made to play this sport regardless of his age, he is still very good.

Tiger Woods has certainly made a comeback, I just hope it doesn't come along with scandal. However, when you are that famous controversy is sure to follow you. What an incredible moment to have met someone whom you have always wanted to meet and to share the moment with your son must have been such a special moment.

Experience outweighs age and I definitely think Tiger woods is a great example of this
Whatever scandals he may have been caught up in does not take away the fact that he is great in Golf

Glad he is doing well. Everyone seems to forget that celebrities are human. They may be richer but they also have everything we have as a human. When I was younger I had many celebrities that i would love to meet and was basically obsessed. Today, I don't have the need to meet any of them and I have only one obsession now and that's with God.

With a game like Golf, perhaps sheer experience and determination can outweigh factors like age? He is a great sportsman, and although he may have been caught up in scandals, he remains an icon.

Wow what a comeback, I agree people should be down to earth even if you are famous, you must treat people the way you want to be treated. I always say when your mind is set on success than nothing can slow you down.

With Tiger Woods, he can be competing with someone his age even he will still be top ranked and also the negativity that has not seemed to stop him from doing what he loves.

I am so glad that despite the scandals he was involved in and the injuries that he had he is able to make a comeback. Coming from a family where my sister is a sports player I know how much it takes a person not only physically but mentally to build up their reputation and get to their peak of their career and I am glad that he is back.

He is undoubtedly an amazing golfer and his perseverance ought to be commendable!

Tiger Woods in a legend and I am not surprised that he has made a comeback! I think he still has a lot of talent and skill to share with the world. I suppose if you are determined enough as a sportsman not even an injury will slow you down.

Even if you're not a fan of Tiger Woods you have definitely still heard of him. Despite the scandals that follow him around he is still an awesome Golfer! I'm sure everyone can take their hat off to him as I'm sure its not as easy as it seems to get over a huge scandal, a back operation and he is still putting his all in the sport. and then still on top of everything being so humble that's awesome.

When somebody treats you and the people you love with respect and kindness it doesn't matter what other people say because they left you with a good impression. I am not a huge fan of golf but considering his age and the latest operations, he seems to be doing really good again.

Tiger is a great golfer, he always has been a marvel of his golfing generation. I, however, do not particularly like him as a person. I admire his golf but won't forget his transgressions with multiple women when he had a wife and two young children at home.

While I know absolutely nothing about golf, I have always been fond of Tiger, regardless of all the negative publicity around him, no-one can doubt that he is a remarkable sportsman and a legend of the game! There are numerous sportsman whose thunder can outshine any kind of negative publicity and one needs to remember, that the two should be separated! My favourite sportsman are Richie McCaw, Dan Carter, Beauden Barrett, Israel Dagg, Jonah Lomu and various others, they have unmatched skills and just make sport an absolute cracker to watch!
