New Age and ANN 7

As many of us suspected it has now turned out that we, the taxpayers, were funding the Gupta family media empire – this is the media channels that obviously supported Jacob Zuma at the time.  How this happened is that our taxpayers’ money was spent on advertising on this newspaper and TV channel, even though they did not have many readers/viewers.  We pay taxes and the Government carefully chose where to spend those taxes – in this case on the Gupta’s media empire advertising.

The Free State government for example spent R80 million on advertising across that media and the Government Information and Communication Systems (GCIS) spent R55 million with New Age Media receiving 95% of all the payments it received just from various government departments!  The bulk of the payments came after Themba Maseko, the former head of GCIS, was tossed out of his job because he refused to entertain the Gupta’s!  One wonders what else we are going to learn from the current state capture investigations!

It sounds like Gupta family came to South Africa with a strong good plan of how to destroy South Africa, and sounds like their plan worked well

They must fire each and every one of them after the commission they must make an example, what scares me is everyone was well aware of the corruption and Gupta's

This is crazy but yet again nothing will be done about it. We don't have a say over where I taxes go anyway....

This is astounding. I also wonder how this will affect the upcoming elections and what other scandals will be uncovered.

I think it will be interesting to see at the end of the day how corrupt the Guptas really was or is. I really hope they will pay for what they have done and also the people who was part of the whole corruption.

Lets hope they reveal everything behind the red curtain, yes state affairs are meant to be kept out the public eye, but something that effects the whole economy should be shown to all

I never cease to be amazed by the depths of the Gupta's misdealings. It is astounding how any of them managed to even fall asleep at night.

Some how they brain wash the people and they get the votes every time. It will be interesting to see how all of this new information will impact the elections next year or if people will fall for the empty promises as usual

This is just so frustrating that the government would spend R80 million on advertising! All that money could be used in sectors that would help boost the economy of the country such as the education sector or even assist in creating employment.

Sad but true, that this kind of information is not a surprise anymore. It still makes me so angry that there is so many things they could fix, upgrade or use this kind of money, our hard working money we have to contribute for tax on crap like this. Advertizing. I mean really. For the guptas nonetheless.

I am so sick and tired of hearing how we, the tax payers, were robbed of our hard earned money and nothing has been done about it. When is justice going to happen. When are we going to be compensated for paying over our taxes, as law abiding citizens, and having the government looting the coffers. We have little to show for so much yet the Guptas sit pretty. And still I must pay towards the former president's pension...………………………….daylight robbery.

Sinead  said:

I can think of a many other things they could have used that money on rather than advertising.
This kind of thing is not only happening in our country though, it happens all over the world! We are just not aware of it...

I to wonder, what on God's green earth does the Free-State government no-less, need to spend R80 000 000.00 on advertising for? Lost and Found Sheep perhaps? Oh, wait, yes actually.

This will never stop and it's only going to get worse. The government doesn't care about others only themselves. And it doesn't help to complain because you are only stressing yourself out. Lets hope for some change

Reading the comments alone is quite depressing. No one has faith in our country, government or its laws. People get away with murder literally - what is tax payers money? This is certainly not the last thing that will be revealed. Even caught red handed there are little to no repercussions.

Alexis  said:
on Tuesday 18-Sep-18 11:42 AM
It seriously does not surprise me at all - the corruption this country has rto battle with on a daily basis is sickening to say the least - and who suffers - we the taxpayers - can they not just pick up all those little pieces and put them back together

Michelle D  said:
on Tuesday 18-Sep-18 08:38 AM
I wish that I was still shocked at stories like this but in all honesty it's what we've come to expect from our incorruptible government. It's almost impossible to think that we can recover from the turmoil of our past. It's disappointing because so many people love this country and want to have hope in its future, it's just very difficult at the moment.

Mathilda Du Preez  said:

This is so annoying like is there no one honest in the whole Government! Can they not see that they are bringing South Africa down more and more?
I'm so frustrated!
I’m still waiting for our new President to wave his magic wand to make everything better because stuff is just getting worse!

Jessica  said:

Government should not be attributing R80 Million to advertising, why on earth would they need to advertise? Perhaps, just noting a prescene on social media and the like, but by and large their involvement within the community and upliftment of the community would constitute enough 'advertising'. Quite absurd - when clinics cost but a fraction of that. It remains to be seen, that South Africa are not without the resources are necessary capital to progressively realize our rights, but as noted, it is the allocation of these resources that is the pitfall!

Bianca N  said:

Fikile  said:

Yet again the government has proved to us that he is not thinking about the people that work hard to earn a living, unlike him just sitting the and only ripping the re-wards of not working hard for his pay check. The weakness of so many people "money" as long as their pockets a full the rest shall follow.

Nina  said:

I believe there is a lot more shocking discoveries to be made, but at least it came to a point where things are being seriously investigated. We can just hope that in some way these investigations would make people think twice before getting involved in corruption.

Dune  said:

Everyday, something new, I don't think SA will ever recovery from this, more and more people I know are leaving the country, it makes you wonder, should I do the same?

brumilde  said:

Once again it shows that the government do not take care of the people. Such corruption, will we ever see the light of day. And people still vote for the ANC, and over and over again they show their true face.

deeper down the rabbit hole we go.
unfortunately the vast majority of south africans do not read the news paper, watch the news or listen to news based radio stations.
