Is 5G safe?

There is a lot of emphasis at the moment on 5G and the fact that it is already running in some cities around the world and on the way to many countries later this year and next year.  Many scientists believe that electromagnetic fields affect people at levels below what is considered “safe” now and that the risks include cancer, genetic damage, learning and memory deficits, etc.

The radio frequency radiation exposure limits were based upon behavioural change in rats that were exposed to microwave radiation and there are those that say the limit should be based on a biological effect and not just a change in the behaviour of a laboratory rat.  5G will apparently use millimetre waves in addition to the microwaves that have been used for the current cellular technologies.  Because the 5G masts have to be installed much closer to each other is going to expose a lot more people to the millimetre wave radiation.  Since 5G is a pretty new technology there is very little research on the health effects.

When consideration was given to the implementation of 5G technology in America, a US Senator, Richard Blumenthal, concluded during hearings, “So there really is no research ongoing.  We’re kind of flying blind here, as far as health and safety is concerned.”  It seems that countries around the world are simply implementing 5G on the basis that the companies have said that it is fine and have not really studied any possible links between the radio frequency and cancer.

The thing about cancer is that if you have the gene, in all likelihood you will get it regardless. It's kind of amazing how many things give people cancer because they emit microwaves - like cell phone towers or microwaves used to heat food. But in the same breath people constantly do things that have actually been studied and proven to increase the risk of cancer like smoking, going out into the sun, aging, eating red meat, drinking alcohol. I just don't see how 5G is any different other than we don't already know for sure that it increases the risk of cancer.

It sounds amazing but I do not think it should be implemented because it sounds like it will do more harm than good.

There is no way I would consider 5G!
This new technology is not good for human, it will spread faster then Covid - 19

I think the health concerns are legitimate but for now, everything we know about 5G networks tells us that there's no reason to be alarmed. Many other technologies we use every day have higher health risks. I think we should obviously monitor this with regular and constant research.

I have heard of this and it is quite scary, some people have also said this is linked to the aluminati but who knows. Yes technology should improve but not at this cost, to put our health at stake. It would seem that people are getting greedy, they want to be the first to come up with new things and new ways of changing our lives and so they are rushing research that should be taking years to figure out and master and putting the rest of in danger.

Bianca Taljaard  said:

Wow, that would really amazing, but I'm sure the must be some kind of negative effect on the exposure.

Whoever implemented these 5G should have studied it first and also thing about the harm it will cause in people lives, there is too many sickness nowadays we can't afford to have a sick nation

I do believe that it is important that we should always strive to create new and better technology for the future however the downside to creating anything which is intended to be used by thousands requires advanced research, to prove that it is save, and this can take years. When these studies have been completed and we know the answer it will probably be too late as a lot of countries and companies would have implemented it for their gain and making the world believe that it is the new best thing.

Kathryn  said:

Even if there were known and credible studies and research on the exposure, I doubt it would have made much of a difference in the decision to implement 5G.

5G will be amazing, but I don't think it's safe at all. In today's life everything is about technology. We need to try and keep up with everything

I am slightly worried about 5 G and we never know what other illnesses it may cause.
We do not need 5 G, yes its better, yes it is more advanced but is it necessary is my question and to what extent is this going to be implemented. We are all human and we should take better care of ourselves. Its not always about improving technology sometimes we need to take a step back.

Well this is quite concerning, where are the bodies that govern these institutions? I am sure behind the scenes studies are being done it is just sad that some people have already been exposed.

This topic has come up between myself and my husband and he likes to believe that 5G might even be the cause of the pandemic. Who knows.?Like Patrick says. Its sad to think that companies are putting our lives in danger to profit from it.

Patrick  said:

It is a sad story that companies risk our lives in the name of profit. Despite many countries suspecting that 5G causes brain problems, non of the countries is doing research on it or stopping its implementation.

Megan  said:

I am already very sensitive to the transmissions on a daily basis in tighter areas like complexes and estates, constantly getting a headache... I don't think 5g is going to be any safer than what's already going on, I don't think its healthy for anybody.

Jessica  said:
on Wednesday 06-May-20 05:11 PM
Well how much worse could 5G be compared to 4G? So either way we going to land up with problems. Radiation is radiation.

Nikita  said:

This makes me think of all the studies done on people who have grown up near old mining dumps in South Africa and how they are trying to link this exposure to cancer and other diseases the local residents are struggling with. This 5G exposure would be on a much larger scale and they should definitely do more research before risking so many peoples lives.

Joyce  said:

I think 5G might be amazing and all but on the other side it sounds not safe to people’s health. I think a full research before implementing it would be a good idea.

Technology will forever be improved upon.... Whether 5G will be any good, remains to be seen. Obviously from a technological side, it will be amazing but I don't think all that radiation will be good for any living thing.

Countries around the world should really study and get a lot more information about this 5G before allowing it to be used. This could affect the people in the country and have a negative affect on there health. Countries need to start thinking about the health of their people.

Melissa  said:

It's better to wait and see whether 5G is safe or not? People will do anything to make extra money instead of thinking about people's health

Melandre  said:

I agree that research as to the effects it could have on your health should be researched adequately. I have seen how effective 5G is via youtube clips, its extremely fast, however I would rather wait a little longer for something to download than face the risks of cancer, genetic damage, learning and memory deficits.

That is surprising to say the least. I do feel that researvh should have been done far more thouroughly as with anything else that is introduced into society these days. We are here trying to rid the world of this dreaded virus, and yet 5G which could be a health risk gets implemented and there are no worries The world is impatient and wants things now...better faster stronger with no consideration for the consequences

I think because so much is unknown so many theories are bound to exist. Just the other day I saw an interview with David Icke and how he is of the view that Covid19 is as a result of 5G! He goes on to say that countries and populations mostly affected by Covid19 are those who have 5G towers erected. Whenever there is a lack of certainty, theories will arise.

As with so much of our technology and advancements, do we really know how any of it affects us, or is it still too soon to tell?

Mathilda  said:

It's all about faster internet connection and 5G is a next generation wireless network.
5G is also the new favourite conspiracy theory as there are people "claiming" it causes cancer and infertility, but there is no proof as per the numerous articles I have read.

But there is also not enough evidence that says that it is not harmful to humans?

I won't give my opinion on this as there is too much speculation on the matter, but one can be sure that whether or not it is dangerous to humans, soon all countries will upgrade to 5G.

4G tops 100 megabits per second and 5G tops at 10 gigabits per second meaning 5G is 100 times faster.

Do we really have any reasons that the radiation from 5G is safe? I've read a few articles where they have said it is safe but to what standards? It is said that the new standards take measurements across a smaller cross section, and specifically pay attention to the power absorbed by, rather than simply exposed to, a body. I agree with many of the comments - investors and companies greed will take preference over our health.

Chante  said:
on Wednesday 29-Apr-20 03:17 PM
I have read quite a few articles on this topic and one had stated that some 5G 'conspiracy theorists' contend that the new network generates radiofrequency radiation that can damage DNA and lead to cancer; cause oxidative damage that can cause premature aging; disrupt cell metabolism; and potentially lead to other diseases through the generation of stress proteins. So it is clear that it is potentially very dangerous.

Sujata  said:
on Wednesday 29-Apr-20 02:17 PM
There isnt enough information on the effects of 5G on users health however, many of the appliances and devices we use emit low frequency radiation. Long term effects of 5G on the health may only be prevalent after many years of exposure by those living in close proximity to 5G masts.

Kendall  said:

Companies can be very greedy and will do anything to try maximise their profits. It is concerning that we are being exposed to something that we do not know much about. The effects of all this new technology may only become evident in years to come and by then it will be too late as the damage will already have been done. More extensive research should be done before it is fully implemented and poses a great risk to our health.

fikile  said:
on Wednesday 29-Apr-20 09:12 AM
It sure sounds dangerous but do you think people wont want to use it even after they are told that it is bad for heir health or their well being, I don't think so because people only follow what is new and no matter how dangerous it maybe they will still want it. People want fast internet no matter the cost because working with slow internet you feel like you are not doing anything and it get frustrating.

Dasanya  said:
on Wednesday 29-Apr-20 09:00 AM
Companies will always choose the profit option above the health and safety of its consumers. Because 5G is so new and not much research has been conducted, its implementation will be a risk and until the consequences start showing, we will all be affected. Technology is great and it makes lives easier but it should not be that we choose technology above our health!

Michelle Smillie  said:
on Wednesday 29-Apr-20 08:55 AM
People said the same things about 3G and 4G and there has been no significant proof, as yet, that they do in fact negatively impact people's health. It seems that this will be the same with the 5G network. There is proof that the radiations can be dangerous, however, it is at a very close range and the only the people who do maintenance would be affected. But, as everything in life, only time will tell.

Zindy  said:

There are a lot of speculations around 5G is it safe, yes it seems to have greater transmission speeds and lower latency, increased connectivity ect but there is still a lack of information regarding the safety and efficiency. I do think it amazing how technology has boomed but at what price.

patrick  said:

If 5G is implemented with research around our health then the dangers of it tramps the benefits of having it. Profit is put above our health and maybe countries must do research before it gets implemented.

Technology is amazing and has made the world smaller by allowing people to connect at the click of a button. It is scary to note that people, for the sake of money, will continue to put things on the market giving any thought to what they might be doing to humans and nature....we truly are our own worst enemy and i can just see in years to come the burden we will be putting on the medical industry when all the ailments caused by technology starts making its appearance.

idiots keep setting fire to the towers, so it's a matter of time until someone is seriously injured.
