Testing for food allergies

I recently did one of the most advanced blood tests that you can get to test for inflammatory responses to food and food chemicals.  The rest is known as the Mediator Release Test which is patented by Oxford Biomedical Technologies.  The white blood cells release cytokines, histamine and the tests that they do measure the changes in circulating white cells and diets based on the results of an MRT test dramatically reduce inflammation and symptoms.

Without going into it in much detail, when we are sensitive to food it causes inflammation within our bodies and Covid-19 has been a very good example of how bad inflammation can be because it is a disease that largely kills by inflammation.  What surprised me were the things that I was most allergic to – if I singled out the worst food that I should avoid at all costs one of them is something I drank my entire life, namely cow’s milk and the other three are spinach, soybean and corn.  So those are four things I am never meant to have at all and luckily I phased milk out of my life over recent years and have been using almond milk, although the test now indicates that I am sensitive to almond milk as well.  The thing I am the most sensitive to is soybean and of course there is milk alternatives made out of soya as well.  I have a mild sensitivity to green peas, eggplant, kale, cashews, oranges, melon and even carrot, but across all the tests the thing I was least sensitive to appears to be crab!

Black pepper, which I love, also has a very low sensitivity for me, but I am just naming some of those so that you understand how detailed the tests are.  They even test whether you are sensitive to the egg yolk or the egg white and from a South African point of view, whether you are sensitive to tea or rooibos tea.  Neither of them affects me really, but rooibos tea affects me less. They recommend though that you completely avoid any foods that you test reactive to.  None of them are going to kill me, but you don’t need inflammation, excess mucus and gut issues by eating foods that you are not suited to.  They help aggravate things like depression, migraine, asthma, arthritis and even epilepsy.  I guess I will have to pay more attention in future, when shopping, to certainly make sure I don’t get anything that involves soybean or cow’s milk.

How did you get the test done? I am struggling to find the info for this and am anxious to get this done for my daughter. Please send details. Thank you.

I would most definitely want to try this test out! I believe we would live a much healthier life if we knew exactly which foods agree and don't agree with our constitution.

I would love to go for this test, a person does not actually know what you are allergic to until you show symptoms.

I would agree that this is very interesting blog to read and also all the comments to it.
I would like to do this test myself to find out my food enemies, but with all said this test has to be done every few years, we all can over grow the allergy or develop new one. Allergies can develop at any point in a person’s life. One factor that increases our chance is our family history. If one parent is allergic there is a 30-50% chance of their offspring developing allergies. This jumps to 60-80% if both parents are allergic.

This would be a great test to take every few years as things can always change one day you are able to eat something and the next you cant, i have heard it from numerous people.

I only underwent these allergy tests as a little girl with my asthma that they found. At that time i could not have any cows milk, bananas, any preservatives would close my chest up so quickly. The worst killer for me was guavas... Most of these food allergens i have grown out of. But there is some I can still feel that affect my chest quite badly and change of seasons and the cold doesn't really help me either.

It is always important to know the food that is good for you and that is not good for you because then you can be able to buy the products that are good for your immune system so that they can be healthy and well enough to fight any infections.

I would also like to take that test to see which foods work exactly with my body and which dont. Eating wheat products or too much milk gives me a skin rash, so obviously too much of a good thing can be bad

That sounds very awesome, it wold be great if you have young children to test so that you dont get into a situation where they child ate some peanut butter and you have to rush him/her to the emergency. I am sure more people would like to use this test for allot of other reasons.

I underwent these allergy tests myself recently and the results seem to always be a surprise to the person. When you have allergies you get so used to the feelings of shortness of breath, blocked nose, etc. that you don't notice the small changes that occur when you eat or come into contact with something that you are allergic to. Knowing what you are allergic to is always best as it helps you not only to avoid it, but treat it better when it does happen again.

This is quite interesting and it's fascinating how in detailed those test results are. It would be quite interesting to have these test done and see what the results are. It is always a good thing to know what your body can and cannot handle.

This was quite an interesting read and I would not mind having the test done myself. I sometimes feel that your body has a way of letting you know that you have to stay away from certain foods but I tend to ignore it. for eg any dairy product makes my stomach ache for days and make me feel blotted same as raw onions and lots of garlic. I think I’m lactose intolerant but because I never done test I'm just going on what I think. When my son was born he often woke with purple lines under his eyes, we tough it could be from not sleeping well, we took him to the doctor and she done an allergy test with his blood. it came back that he was allergic to rice. what a weird allergy but you’ll be surprise how many baby product contains rice. He once ate a fish cake from Ocean Basket and unbeknown to us it had rice in, when I saw it I immediately took it away from him and gave him Allergex but surprisingly the next day it look like he had measles, that’s how bad he reacted to 2 bites of fish cake with rice in.

What a fascinating test! So strange that commons foods allergies are cows milk, soybean, fish, egg and peanuts. All of which I really (mostly) enjoy. I am sure testing like that must be quite pricey. I find though that throughout the years you may no longer have an allergy and may pick up a new one so it may be something you have to go for more than once.

I will love to go for this test, very interesting.
I went for a few tests a year or so ago because I was suffering from inflammation and to my surprise found out that I can't eat any sort of red meat and can only eat white meat (chicken/Fish) and I'm partially lactose intolerant.
The Human body is so interesting and I think it's very important to know your body so that you can ensure you take good care of it.

This is so interesting! I wonder how accurate it is vs eating for your blood type.
Similar to this test, my boyfriend has this one friend who recently saw a Nutritional Therapist. He was told about his iron and testosterone levels all through his body frequency! He hurt his shoulder earlier in the week and she was able to pick it up without him mentioning it. No blood tests, no needles.
Amazing to see how advanced these tests are getting.

I would like to do the test and I already know I'm meant to be eating gluten free products and avoid diary products but how to do this the inexpensive way is another thing. I think many people also know what their bodies do not agree with but are in a position to choose what they eat. We also know that many foods have changed over the years with additives being added to our foods which could be the very things we are actually allergic to.

I find these tests fascinating and embrace science in this regard. I did a similar test a few years ago, although probably not as sensitive a test and it testes strands of your hair and saliva. To my surprise, my two biggest food intolerances are triggered by barley and rye. At some stage some foodie somewhere punted rye bread instead of wheat, not realising that my intolerance to rye is so severe it causes me to faint and seize. The thing is I never liked rye, and I think your body has a way of telling you which foods you should avoid.

I read a book recently where a Doctor was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and wha tshe did in order to combat it. It is incurable, but manageable to say the least. Now this book does not only assist with people whom have this disease, but with a lot more issues that people suffer with on a daily basis. It is all about feeding you mitochondria so that your body is able to work at the optimum level. Another thing is that too much of something can lead to an allergic reaction, regardless of how good it is for you and all food sources have their own trace of protection within them, so best to always change it up everyday. Inflammation is not something to take lightly and can cause more damage than you would think to your system.

What an interesting read. I've been so careful with my 8 month old daughter when starting to introduce solid foods. I know one isn't suppose to give children under the age of 1 honey and nuts. I've been a bit weary of giving her anything containing egg as well as one would not know how she would react. I don't want to take chances with anything in these times.

Megan  said:

Wow that is such a great test! I'd love to do that in order to figure out what I need to avoid... I feel as though mine is cow's milks as well (from an early age already) and most acidic foods but it would be great to understand and not assume what my body needs vs what I think it wants!

That is very Interesting,I would love to do a test like that to be able to know what you are allowed to eat and what not. I'm Allergic to AVO i didn't like it when i was younger and when i was in GR 12 I just had a bite of it and i couldn't breath. Haven't eaten it since, but last year I had a sandwich and i didn't know there was Avo in Bianca Niemann Experienced my allergy close up in personal, I always have allergex with me because i'm also allergic to environmental things such as dust ,grass basically everything outside. So thanks to that I was fine when i had my allergic reaction. I would really love to know what else i'm allergic to

Living with inflammatory issues myself due to such allergies I know all to well the difficulty of walking into a shop and trying to buy things that don't react with you. It is such a tiresome process because you need to read the labels of every product. The worst of them being the spices you use on your food. I must admit though I do have weak moments and I do buy things I shouldn't here and there. I never feel good afterwards though you can immediately feel when you have eaten something that doesn't sit well with you.

It is amazing how detailed this test is. I've never heard of it and I will surely read up on it. I think that it is very important to know how ones body reacts to foods. Sometimes, eating healthy is not enough since your body can react negatively to even healthy foods.

Lourien  said:

We all need to know what causes inflammation and what will improve inflammation. I knew a lady that had very bad arthritis especially in her hands and for those that doesn't know its very painful. We started juicing carrots with a little bit of turmeric which she drank about once or twice a week.

I actually cant believe that the swelling which is actually also due to inflammation went down to such an extent that she could use her hands again. She has been on pills for arthritis but it never worked to the same extent as the carrots and turmeric.
