NewsNow

I was quite impressed with the new offering from FinWeek called NewsNow. It is weekly magazine, costing R20,00, and it basically summarises all the new for the entre week. I think its concept has been copied from overseas countries and it is only in its early editions, but it is certainly well worth the money for someone who would like a nice detailed read during the weekend, and it has a little bit of everything ranging from personal finance to property to interviews and a summary of the news of the week. I would most probably subscribe to it and if I have any problem with it, which is probably a good selling point for it, but not for me, then most of the articles are a little bit too short and too much of a summary. I generally prefer more in-depth articles.

Hi Michael

Nice to see people talking about NewsNow - just a quick point of correction. NewsNow is part of the Media24 weekly magazine stable (same as Finweek) but they are two separate titles (we have previously been double-bagged with them) but they are standalone titles.

NewsNow website - www.nn.co.za which covers some of the weely news. Finweek's website you can find at www.fintalk.co.za and has a lot more finance / personal finance related content.

Kind regards,
Marc Ashton
Editor - Finweek

Unless you have financial interests (trade, stocks, sport) in our country I don't think people find or make the time to catch up with the news (whether it's watching the news, listening to the radio on the way to and from work or reading the newspaper).

A summarized version at a reasonable price is obviously then the better option for the vast majority of the country.

I have been missing out on news lately. I only see a few moments of the e-news channel in the mornings, so I always seem to just get the tail end. This might be a good magazine to invest in.

I think the price is a really affordable and worth it for the News Now. ecspecialy since most of the time we dont read every single article in the newpaper,or are able to buy the newspaper everyday.

So having a magazine that includes most of the weeks important articles is a great idea, however, the downfall is that some articles may be too short, but we then take into consideration- this is a whole weeks worth of articles, adverts etc being compressed into one.

Thanks for the recommendation. My current SA news source is Sunday Times, but I find the quality of stories and subjects is deteriorating, so may try your suggestion.

I agree with Corne, I dont really like reading newspaper because it is to much reading. I would prefer reading something that is summarized that is all I need, to know what is going on.

I think it’s great that they summarize the news so that I don’t have to spend hours and hours reading to find out what’s going on in the world.

I prefer a short version of a story. I am glad this magazine is now in South Africa as well.

NewsNow SA also has a webpage with all the top stories of the past week.

I think the price is good,as it will be affordable to some of us.It will also keep people updated with what is happening around them.

This is definately a mag I would subscibe to. Even though now with the new bill, the news you read would be quite limited. The news I have read latelyu has been really disturbing, kind of makes you want to pack your stuff up and leave

Well for R20.00, I'm sure that the articles will not be in-depth. They must be cramming alot of short articles, so they can reach a bigger variety of people.

I think that is a really good price for what is being offered, although it does sound a bit like noseweek and looks a bit like it.
