Creating more jobs

The National Planning Commission under Trevor Manuel recently announced its target of creating 11 million jobs by 2030. I think one of the keys is to relax the labour laws is South Africa, which are really far too one-sided and it was interesting that the plan said, although they referred only to labour intensive manufacturing, that “Labour laws are not conducive to such industries.”

Amongst the aims are to simplify the dismissal procedures for performance or misconduct. Quite frankly, I think it is time we understand if we are to move forward, there needs to be far less tolerance of the lazy and the incompetent because there are far too many people who simply have no appreciation of good honest hard work.

There is nothing more irritating than laziness. With the high unemployment rate one would think that those who are lucky enough to have a job will do their very best to impress employers and be successful in life.

Shocking to see that some people just don't have any pride in their work. Some people just want to do as little as possible? Please show some backbone!!! There is not enough work, but the people don't want to work????

This country! Even going to a simple store or some place that offers service, workers make us feel as though we owe them something when they are the one's in a sales etc position. Trying to call for service or anything of that source, you wait a million hours before somebody answers and when somebody does, you would be lucky if they do not hang up on you or at least be a little rude cos you have just interuppted their lunch or them playing with each others hair.

Jobs should be given to people who deserves it and are willing to work hard for it. No complaints, no laziness. It drives me insane.

Wow I totally agree with Cherise and Julie, the government workers are just so lazy. I dont think you get any worse than them, they simply just have that don't care attitude hey.

It is refreshing to see such comments from "younger" people - truly inspiring. I have to do EVERYTHING now that I had poor Sonto, Thabitha and Sibongile do - phone the SAPD, RAF, WCC, Hospitals... I CANNOT accept the fact that the service is soooo bad and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. Why should your last resort always have to be a rude phone call or e-mail before you get response? Truly frustrating making one call after another, sending one e-mail after another - and still nothing. What is worse, Senior staff is just as useless. Not a nice word to use, but believe me, I have far worse ones I could use.

Lazy people will never be happy at any work place or succesful in life and they deserve to be losers . We should learn from Japan where people are so hardworking and efficient . I wonder what labour laws they have there ? is it their culture ?t they take pride in anything they do.

I have to agree, ecspecially dealing with people in the service industry- such as police stations and public hospitals on a daily basis.

They are so lazy and just out right -do not want to do their Jobs, from the time they start work to the time they end. Its really annoying that the vast majority of our south african work force has adapted this lazy working ethic.

nothing worse then working with a lazy person. I love driven people who are hard workers. very motivating to a me.

i agree nothing worse than lazy people and people that dont want to work for a living,i have been working since the age of 16,and i have never been afraid of work, there are too many people that need work, and want to work out there,to have to worry about useless labour laws

With jobs being so scarce in today's life, it is imperative that you do your work to the best of your ability. Do every task you are given and do it well. People seem to get have the attitude that oh well i have a job now, so i can just take it easy, and that in itself just shows the type of person you are.

Hard work may not always be noticed by people around you, but just the self satisfaction that you did your job well should be more than enough motivation in itself.

I do agree that a lazy worker can effect an entire company, and it does put a lot more pressure on those who actually appreciate their job and work hard for what they earn.

I agree, lazy workers increase the pressure and workload for those who are hard workers. If a business was filled with hard workers, success would be more visible.

Some employees do take advantage and are ungrateful for the job they have, and I think as an employee myself we should just be grateful for having a job and receive a paid salary, however, this does not mean employers must think we are their 'slaves' just because they are paying our salary every single month. We are all human, and we should all play our part.

I agree 1000% with Angelique. Being slack seems to have more benefits and you have people doing the utmost least persevering through and through, time after time.

It brings down the motivation for the harder working individuals and can only improve our economy as Lucretia said.

Hopefully many companies will adopt a more strict approach.

Totally agree! Laziness is a very unattractive trait that so many people have. It puts me off someone immediately and if I was to employ someone I would not employ somebody who walks slow for example.

I agree too. Lazy people work on my nerves too. I understand that everyone gets their days, but when dealing with the same person or company and all of them are lazy, it is very annoying. Our government has lazy workers, and this ultimately affects the economy too.

Lucretia  said:

Michael, i agree 120%. If it was easier to dismiss people, we would have a far harder workforce and far better customer service. This would have such a positive spin on our economy. If we can get to this stage, we will become a first world country far sooner than we realise.

Angelique  said:

I must be honest but I actually agree. Lazy people bring the hard workers down, and frustrate hard workers. Lazy people tend to get away with their laziness and its rather annoying.
